Just another day in the life of INFINIT athlete and Olympian Richard Hortness — grueling workouts, fun with media, and continued progress towards the 2012 London Olympics.
So, I figured I would give a little update with what is going on with me. We are back into full training which means four mornings a week for two hour practices in the pool and four nights of the same a week. We are also way into the dryland season with 2 one hour drylands with our new conditioning coach, Bryn Jones, who is doing a great job. Finally, to top it all off, 3 one hour weight room sessions a week and one 45 minute one after Saturday morning practice to really put the nail in the coffin after a good week's work.
Things of note from the last week: Last Saturday, I got to live out one of my dreams with CTV's SuperBodies. I was "the talent" as a camera took over the pool, and we shot some really good footage. The dream was to have an entire 50m pool to myself with some cool lighting like you only see on TV. The segment that will air during the London Olympics in a few months. It will overlay the science of what goes on during our races with a composite of actual footage with a digital overlay in some cases. Should be a really cool segment to watch just before I take the stage in real life (fingers crossed).
Besides that, nothing too crazy to report. We have a training camp coming up at the end of the month. Swim Ontario is bringing a select few to Whistler...altitude, I guess? I go straight from there to Medicine Hat to do two talks. One with the community and one "many on one" session with developing athletes from the southeastern region of Alberta. Oh, the other thing I suppose that is good is that my weight continues to be stable, and I am starting to look like I did in 2008 which for me means good things as far as I am concerned.
