Hey Team,
Just got back from Welland for the MultiSport Canada Triathlon weekend. Once again a series of great races over the two days. John and the MSC Team continue to create an environment that caters to all levels of athletes. The weekend was full of great performances on the flat and fast course, along with incredible stories - the most impressive involving Nigel Gray from the Toronto area.
A friend of mine went down hard today on the bike course - Rich Pady was I believe running in 3rd overall with Nigel 20 seconds back. Rich was clipped by the mirror of an oncoming van, as it came across the center line of the road. The hit was powerful and fractured Rich's humerus, when he hit the ground he was subjected to the normal road rash that in-sues when traveling at ~40 km/h. In a self-less and classy act Nigel a local pro - stopped immediately and tended to Rich for several minutes until the ambulance came to take over, not worried a bit about his race. Awesome. This is obviously a big blow to Rich's season-he is incredible shape coming off a huge year last year which included winning the overall title last year at the Triple T. Off for a while now, but he will definitely back.
The podium of today's Half was filled with stellar performance Healthy Results (Rich Pady - Coach) trained Deborah Powell first amongst the women with a 4:47:18. Wolfgang Guembel finished in a blistering 3:56:49 to lead the men, with a 2:09 bike split (41.8 km/h)- Wow.
Had the pleasure of meeting Gord Pauls who is in his final preparations for a Triple Ironman. Gord is completing 3 Ironmans in 3 days at Ironman Canada in August. Hear more and find out how you can help:
Another bright spot was Robbie Chapman, age 16 of Lancaster who finished his very first Half Ironman in 4:55. Previously Rob had only completed one Olympic-strong kid with lots of discipline, future looks bright.
Hear what they are saying:
That's all for now, will see you in Gravenhurst in 3 weeks!! Thanks for a great weekend. Remember if the Run and Ride formulations are not hitting the mark-let us customize to make it make your specific needs and flavour preferences.
