Pua Wins Final XC & First Cross Race!

This weekend INFINIT athlete Pua Sawicki raced her first cyclocross race of the year and it was her first time back on a cyclocross bike in over a year!

There was a good size group of pro women and the reigning California state champion (Coryn Rivera) was sure to be the toughest competition. Pua had been training very hard this past week so she found that her sprinting legs had been spent out on the mountains of southern California.

At the start she was in about 8th position while Coryn took the hole shot and gapped the entire field immediately. Pua slowly felt her legs kick in and began to whittle her way to the top 3.Coryn had finally broke away from another rider and now had a growing gap on the everyone except Pua.

Pua had worked her way into second and was taking time out of Coryn with every pedal stroke. Finally Pua over took her and moved into the lead, Coryn's skill would pull her back to Pua and on one corner Pua went down. Coryn ran into her and both women were piled together with their bikes tangled, they separated themselves and the battle continued!

Eventually Pua was wearing Coryn down and in a final effort she tried to make a pass on Pua but ended up running straight into her on a corner. Pua got up first and never looked back taking the win with around a minute to spare!

A week from last Saturday Pua entered the 18th annual Southridge Challenge in Fontana, Ca. Pua lined up with the Pro male and Cat 1 men to see how she would do after taking off a month. Only pro men and cat 1 men were on hand so since no women were there she decided to race the male field!

After one lap of four she moved into 6th and eventually was able to secure a third in the pro men only 2.5 minutes off the winning pro (Eric Bierman).

This was her strongest finish against the men where she usually finds herself about 5-7 minutes back!

Way to go Pua!!!!

Forest City Velodrome - Track 1

Hey Team,

Just wanted to give you a quick update on the awesome day we had at the Forest City Velodrome right here in Ontario-2 hrs west of Toronto, 2 hrs east of Windsor. Les Feher, Randall Walker and I headed west on the 19th of December to try our hand at Fixed Gear cycling on a track bike at the velodrome. Lorne and the team got us used to the concept during the first part of our Track 1 session that was designed to get us used to riding a fixed gear bike; getting on and off the track and learning the ins and outs of riding on a velodrome. A little unnerving getting used to having no brakes and having the pedals in constant motion, so long as the wheels were turning. Once we had that down, we got onto the track surface, riding the apron first, then onto to the blue band or the Cote d'Azur. Once we could comfortably navigate the Cote d'Azur, we graduated to riding the black line.

Now the black line being at the very of the bottom of the track is no easier to ride than the top. The corners have the same slope at the top and bottom - at, I believe, 55 degrees and the straights are at 40. As long as you hold the speed, there are no issues.

After the initial session, we went directly into a series of skill development exercises-we practice moving up and down the track, riding with different hand positions and riding out of the saddle. In total, we rode the majority of 3 hrs for a fee of $20 plus $10 dollars for the bike rental. What a deal!!!

After the ride, we got a card that recognizes that we have completed Track 1. We were invited to come back for the next 2 months free of charge (including rental) to develop our skills. There is a small fee for insurance that we do have to pay for for the full calendar year. The team at FCV really is keen up safely and economically developing riders of all abilities. Sometimes when you step into an new arena, so to speak, you do not feel welcome. We felt welcome from the moment we entered-they have a great product. I encourage anyone to visit and try your hand at track cycling. I know we will be back, definitely beats riding a trainer for 3 hrs!

Look for a further update from Rob at Forest City Velodrome.

Josh Reviews Infinit Products

What an awesome Christmas present! We just came across a review of Infinit products by Josh Spector on his blog. Actually, “review” is a pretty insufficient word for Josh’s writings about our products. Josh discusses Infinit in a series of entries which thoroughly cover a variety of our products’ features, and he even includes a Q&A for his intrigued readers. “They don’t pay me to talk them up or probably even know I’m doing it,” explains Josh, “I just love the stuff and want to help people have great races.” Well, now we do know, and we’re delighted!

Josh is an LA triathlon and endurance race enthusiast, and is currently training for his fourth Ironman. His blog is a useful and interesting combination of race reviews and personal race reports, product reviews and hints and tips he’s picking up during training.

Josh explains, “I’ve tried all kinds of stuff but since finding Infinit, I’ve been able to get rid of almost all of it. Infinit replaces sports drinks, gels, solid food, electrolyte replacements as well as other supplements I might need during a race. The only reason I do ever use anything else during training or racing is if it’s inconvenient to carry Infinit or if I want electrolytes without calories.”

Josh raves about the customizable aspects of Infinit products, “There are seven different “sliders” that you can manipulate to change things like how strong the flavor is, the amount of calories per serving, the type of carbohydrates in the drink and whether and how much caffeine and protein there will be. The ability to customize fed my inner geek.” Josh has settled on a couple of different formulae: one for cycling and one for running. You can read all about what works for him here.

The convenience of Infinit is another aspect of the drink that won Josh over: “In general I don’t need anything else. Infinit has enough electrolytes that I’ve never needed to take any salt during training or racing. Also, as long as I drink enough of the Infinit, I never get hungry or feel any need for “real” food.” Josh has been able to rely on Infinit alone for his nutritional needs during races, which is just what we hope to provide our customers with. To learn more about how to achieve the same, click over to our website or contact us to talk about your needs. You can also read more of Josh’s thoughts on Infinit products here, here and here.

2010 - Canadian Olympic Torch Run

Today the torch passed through the town of Amherstburg, Ontario-the home of INFINIT Nutrition Canada. How cool is that? The very flame that will ultimately light the torch in Vancouver in a few short months passes right by the facility that is producing the fuel that many of our Canadian athletes will be using as they strive to hit the podium.

From the moment we forged the relationship with Canadian Sport Centre Pacific to produce a full line of sport-specific, WADA-Tested custom blends for their athletes, I looked towards 2010 with dreams of fueling our best. We at INFINIT are so proud that we will be helping athletes like snowboarder Alexa Loo achieve her dreams of gold.

An hour or so after the torch passed through Amherstburg it was on to LaSalle, my town. It was great to see the torch in person. My wife Brenda, son Mat and my parents were all on hand when we proudly watched the torch pass by. 50 days to go-I can't wait to watch.

Go Canada Go!!!

Infinit Nutrition Announces EggNog Recovery Drink

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: INFINIT Nutrition reaffirms its standing as the most unique and innovative nutrition company in the marketplace today with the announcement of a special “Egg Nog” flavored recovery drink—just in time for the holidays.

INFINIT Nutrition, the worldwide leader in customized sports nutrition, decided to get in the spirit of the holidays this year. Egg Nog, a traditional favorite beverage around the holidays, seemed the perfect unique flavor to try as a recovery drink. The logic goes: simply because you're recovering from a triathlon or 24 hours of non-stop mountain biking doesn't mean you can't celebrate with a little holiday cheer.

According to INFINIT President Michael Folan, “We were brainstorming about something fun to do for our athletes around the holidays. What could be more fun than putting a Ho Ho Ho into our already great recovery drink? We didn't take the idea too seriously ourselves at first – and then we got the test reactions of the athletes. They LOVED it. So we buckled down and got busy; we rolled the first full batch out yesterday and now the whole facility smells like egg nog. We were astounded at the number of orders we received.”

“Most importantly, though, we are proud of the fact that we are the only nutrition company that is nimble enough (and crazy enough) to think about mixing egg nog and athletes. One more thing of note, ” he added, "we're offering a ridiculous $15 DISCOUNT on the EggNog Recovery Drink through the end of the year. Just enter the discount code EGGNOG at checkout."

Fans of INFINIT Nutrition already know the RIDE, RUN and RECOVERY trademarks as the blends that have blessed some of the finest endurance events in the world including Ironman France and the 24 hours of Moab MTB race series. INFINIT Nutrition has become the nutrition of choice for endurance athletes all over the world and is now available in Canada, Europe, and Australia with new franchises planned for Japan and China in 2010.

INFINIT Nutrition is the only sports drink company that provides its athletes with the ability to customize their drink online by selecting from seven key ingredients to optimize their performance and address their unique nutritional needs. INFINIT’s website and online customization tool is available at InfinitNutrition.com
