Race Reports from Rainy Illinois & Muddy West Virgina

Race-Day Recaps from the Official Drink of U.S. Women’s Triathlon Series & 24 Hours of Big Bear

Naperville, Illinois — INFINIT Staff Nutritionist, Kim Mueller, gave an excellent nutrition talk at the U.S. Women’s Triathlon Series in Naperville that was very well received. She was able to talk about how to take INFINIT on the course as well as address any further nutritional questions the participants had. She’s looking forward to providing similar clinics again at the Las Vegas and San Diego Series events this fall. To top it off, Kim also ended up on the podium, finishing 2nd OA amateur and 7th OA when you include the pros…Great job Kim!

And while Saturday’s race expo threatened to be rainy and windy and cold and miserable… and the Infinit tent tried to blow away at least once, the weather finally provided a break for us to chat to a whole bunch of folks new to Infinit about creating a custom formula as well as Chris from Element MultiSport, a really, really nice new store in the Chicago area that will be hosting an in-store Infinit Nutrition Seminar coming up in July. We also had quite a bit of interest in and thumbs-up feedback for the new single serving packs of Ride, Run, and Repair; we are very excited about making this brand-new race-day packaging available at these races…

Hazelton, West Virginia — INFINIT Nutrition was in full force at the 24 hours of Big Bear Mountain Bike Race. Team INFINIT went the extra mile for the 600 or so racers with product support at the staging area and also on the course. Many thanks to Taylor and Stacey for staying up all night, cranking the tunes and passing out INFINIT to keep the racers hydrated and spirits high. It was a great time had by all! Griesbauer Smokes Ironman Brazil

“Infinit is the perfect choice for me to achieve my goals in training and racing.”

After Dede Griesbauer retired from her successful career as a swimmer in 1994, she earned an MBA and went to work on Wall Street. But the lure of the athletic life was too strong to resist, and after just two years of triathlon racing, she decided to walk away from her desk and turn pro in 2005. The results: winning the Ironman UK title in 2006 (while setting a new course record), finishing as the top American in the 2007 Ironman World Championship, and winning Ironman Brazil in 2009. Good decision, Dede.

Watch the video of Dede’s jubilant finish at Ironman Brazil or read the full story online at Slowtwitch. Stay tuned, we hope to talk Dede into another appearance at one of our INFINIT LIVE! webseminars later this season…

Congratulations, Dede, from the whole team at Infinit! We’re celebrating your victory by including the Limited Edition Dede Griesbauer Label (with updated 2009 Brazil win designation) on the first 500 custom order packages placed in July. No kiddin’!

Infinit Success Stories

Jared Woodford won the Tempe International Tri by 6. Here’s what he had to say about the Heat mix:

Dear Infinit,

Your products are a lifesaver - and a race winner too! I left the cool spring of Ohio to race the Tempe International Triathlon last month in the heat of Arizona. I could not have asked for more from your Infinit Heat Mix. Your product was flawless and I was able to win the event despite the 100 degree temperatures.

Thank you for helping me to perform at my best.

Proper Fueling for All-Day Adventures

By Infinit Staff Nutritionist, Kim Mueller, MS, RD

True adventure is about defining your own path and breaking beyond your traditional rings of comfort to establish new performance potentials for your body that the mind may have once doubted. Whether you are planning 50 miles of single track action on your mountain bike, some backcountry XC skiing, a long rock climbing ascent, or a trek by foot to the summit at 15,000 feet, the boundaries set by our minds can continue to be defied with the aid of proper nutritional planning for the long haul.

Extreme Nutrition Tip: Prevent engine failure with frequent fueling

Unlike rest where our glycogen (storage form of carbohydrate) reserves are maintained for a good 3-4 hours, when ‘in motion, these stores deplete every 1-2 hours making the mental ‘bonk’ and muscle-wrenching wall probable causes of a engine failure during all-day adventures when nutrition is neglected. To ensure optimal energy levels for sustained endurance, an adequate amount of fuel plus some emergency fuel should be included in your adventure pack before heading out.

Because all-day adventures are more aerobic in nature than shorter workouts, there is sufficient oxygen available for digestion of a more diverse macronutrient (carbohydrate, fat, protein) buffet during such efforts although carbohydrate should still be the focus of this buffet. While calorie burn will vary based on course terrain, weather conditions (shivering increases calorie expenditure), and activity chosen, adventurers should expect to burn ~3-4 calories per pound of body weight each hour of activity of which 30-50% should be replaced. For example, a 150 lb adventurer will burn ~450-600 calories each hour of which 135-300 hourly calories should be replaced.

Obviously, ease of travel will contribute to the foods chosen for all-day adventures but common choices include non-perishables such as freeze-dried foods, trail mixes, nut butter sandwiches, sports drinks, energy bars, dried soups, & beef/turkey jerky.

Life changing equipment...

There are very few pieces of equipment that I would consider truly life changing. My first car when I was 16, my first computer. Maybe the very first really nice bike I ever bought. It is a short list. Not many things really catch my imagination. I consider them useful tools, but hardly life changing.

Well...I got one to add to my list. After being a blackberry user for 10+ years on Verizon, I bought the new 3G I Phone. I know, I am a geek but it is an amazing piece of equipment. Sure the apps are cool. LOVE playing the Pandora music (ska and classic reggae is my fav), backgammon and cribbage. But it's the phone and the calender that is appealing for my biz. I can also log in to my desktop remotely and operate it like I was back at my office. Big help when you don't bring a file to a meeting when I am 1,200 miles away.

My brother has been a MAC guy for 20 years (early adapter). But I am now a convert. Now...about that PC.
